Basic information

Information library

Our tasks are varied and complex. Here we provide you with basic information and frequently asked questions.

Understanding the European Emissions Trading System

The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS 1) operates on a market economy basis to reduce emissions of climate-damaging gases in Europe.

Understanding national emission trading

With national emissions trading, Germany introduced another climate protection instrument in 2021 to reduce emissions, especially in the heating and transport sectors.

Understanding electricity price compensation (SPK)

Electricity price compensation for emissions trading-related indirect CO2 costs (SPK) intends to maintain the international competitiveness of electricity-intensive companies.

Understanding CBAM

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) complements the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS 1) and combines protection against carbon leakage with effective carbon pricing.
