Emissions Trading: Preventive Measures of the German Registry
Protection from EU-wide Phishing Attack via E-Mail
Dear Sir or Madam,
to protect our customers from yesterdays phishing attack via e-mail, as a precaution the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) at the Federal Environment Agency eliminated the possibility to make transactions out of the German Registry. However, it is still possible to receive transactions. Account administrators can also log on to the system, view transactions and change their account data.
In addition to the security measures we proposed in our mailing of 28/01/2010, concerning the same topic, we would like to give some more advice for the secure utilisation of the German Emissions Trading Registry:
- It is advisable to announce a further account administrator in addition to the two who are already there whose approval is required for transactions. Thus the danger of criminal e-mail-queries for account data or suchlike will be reduced considerably. If you would like to use such a four-eyes-principle, you can apply for it with the appropriate form in the registry.
- You may also hide sensitive data of you registry account and thus withdraw them from public access. This is particularly advisable for e-mail addresses because these are often the basis of phishing attacks. Account administrators can indicate which data they want to hide by using a field in the form for personal data.
Please find further information about these two additional security measurement in the user manual of the Emissions Trading Registry.
